Rogerson Stable Newsletter – August 2006

Stable news snippets
A Trainers Premiership shared.  Another racing season has concluded and the stable is very pleased with getting up late on the final day to tie the trainers premiership with Mark Walker’s stable. The total of 88 wins was highlighted by stakes race victories from Chartreuse (2) and Vegas Showgirl and supported by some outstanding season efforts like Sable (5 wins) and the emergence of possible staying stars like Cape Kinaveral. We are very positive that the upcoming season will be even better.

Appentice Jockey’s Premiership won by Kelly Myers. Congratulations to Kelly Myers who has just completed her first full season as an apprentice jockey and has won the apprentice premiership with 64 wins for the season and stakes earned of over $700, 000. A notable achievement and Kelly looks to have a great future. She still rides with a 1kg apprentice allowance.

New racing season will bring opportunity for stable apprentices. The stable continues to invest in education and currently has 3 stable apprentices in Kelly Myers, Masa Tanaka and Heather Poland. Masa already has 2 race wins and Heather should not be long in opening her account as more opportunities come her way. Both still claim 4 kgs allowances and can be engaged for rides by phoning Stephen Autridge or Roydon Bergerson.

Website News
If you have not already found it we suggest you keep an eye on the “hottest stable oil” section on our website
www.garogerson.com . This is where we preview and review the stable prospects for the upcoming few days. The oil has been pretty good over the last few months.

Syndicate News
Super Sleuth (AnzacSyndicate) beats Balmuse to tie premiership – What a way to tie the premiership with only two races remaining in the season. The faithful got plenty off the tote last Sunday when Super Sleuth who has been in great form, held off Balmuse to win at Oamaru.

Pin Up Boy (Anzac Syndicate) returns for new season – The Anzac syndicate also races the very talented Pin Up Boy who has come back in great order. He placed in the Group 1 Railway Hcp last season and we hope he can crack a big race this time in.

Three Lads Syndicate have trials runner at Te Teko trials – Our new season 2 yr olds have just started to speed up and the first one to go was the Riviera colt in the Three Lads syndicate. He unfortunately broke a leather strap on jumping out but was better for the outing and behaved like a gentleman. The next trials are at Cambridge next week and we hope for the fine weather to continue to enable a good surface for the juveniles. Syndicate members will be emailed regarding which horses will be running.

Australian News
132 winners in Australia in 2005/2006. Another satisfactory season across in Australia although with the recent retirements of Savabeel, Polar Success, Carry on Cutie, Bradbury’s Luck and Econsul the stable was light at the top end. We are looking to young stars like Astounded, Luvuleo, Sepia and the very exciting 2 year olds several of which were purchased at Magic Millions and Sydney Easter.

Melbourne carnival noms are headed by Astounded (1000 Guineas/Crown Oaks), Luvuleo (Caulfield Guineas/Derby) and Sepia (Caulfield/Melbourne Cups)

Owners News
Magic Millions filly purchase attracts new owners to stable – we welcome many new owners to the stable from the formation of our syndicates. A recent meeting with Rob Symons and his family from Auckland has seen them purchase an interest in a very nice Success Express filly in New Zealand, an Anabaa filly and a Red Ransom colt in Sydney. Good luck to them. Other new faces amongst our owners include Ian & Jenny Smith who have tasted success at the top of the standardbred world with  Blossom Lady her son Mr DeeGee.

Colin & Russell Just have been stable clients for some years now and it should be noted that they have invested in a Danehill Dancer filly purchased at the recent Magic Million sale. Colin & Russell have also raced Taatletail, Buena Ventura and Cape Kinaveral so they would have to be good judges.

Dormello News
Welcome to our foundation staff Mark & Jane Corcoran, Sharlene Hoskin and Alan & Julie Caldwell. They have done a great job in establishing the farm in readiness for the breeding season that gets underway for stallions from 1st September.

First foal born at Dormello stud is also the first Savabeel foaled. Although a little early it has been a great start for the farm to receive the filly foal by Savabeel (pictured) from the Danehill mare Astradane on 30th July. She is a half sister to Hawkes Bay Guineas winner Stardane and she looks a dead ringer for her father Savabeel.

Bookings to Duelled are close to closing off. We have been overwhelmed with the reception Duelled has received from NZ and Australian breeders. He is a Group winning son of Redoutes Choice from the Sir Tristram mare “Leica Pretender” and stands at great value for only $7,500 plus GST. Inspections can be arranged by phoning Mark Corcoran on 021 911 884.

Horses to Follow
Not a lot racing for the next few weeks until tracks improve but keep an eye on our more precocious babies over the next few weeks at the early trials. We rate our 3 yr old colts and suggest you follow the likes of Mr Shanghai, Brut Force, Alberto, Fingers Crossed and Ifionlyhadtime.

Stable Feature: The Staff.
The success of the NZ stable is a tribute to the many support staff in behind the scenes, who all contribute through their own specialized areas of expertise and are worthy of mention. These include our experienced float drivers who work tirelessly taking horses to races and trials, bringing them in and out of stable work, and also make trips to the beach for horses needing variety.

Big ups to our skilled team of farriers and vets, and to our hardworking Track Manager and his crew who maintain the 2 grass galloping tracks, the sand work track, the trotting track, the walker, the swimming pool and the horse boxes for 365 days per year.

The trackwork riders and ground staff do the hard yards in the early hours behind the scenes and away from the limelight. The Dormello Park staff have done a great job looking after the spellers at the new post and railed state of the art spelling farm.

You will all know our training team of Graeme, Roger Elliot, Stephen Autridge and Roydon Bergerson and the office staff in both NZ and Australia who conduct our business using the most modern communication tools to keep owners up with the play. Arguably the most important of all are the accommodation house staff who feed and maintain this hardworking team. Together our goal is to take you racing “The Winning Way”!

Horses/Shares available for purchase
From time to time we have available shares in colts or fillies on a purchase or lease basis, but they invariably are sold fairly quickly. If you would like to receive up to date email information on what is available, email
murray@rogerson.co.nz to be placed on our no obligation mailing list.

We still have some shares available in our Rogerson Racing syndicates for 2006. A lot of these horses are now close to trialling and we recommend the syndicates as a great way to enter racing. One payment buys you a share in 2 or 3 well bred horses, fully insured, paid up for bonus races and almost ready to race. Priced from only $7,000 plus GST you should contact Murray now for details of what we have available. Full syndicate details including photos and pedigrees can be sent out by post or email for you to consider.

One aspect of the syndicate involvement that is growing rapidly in popularity is the social side. Regular stable functions are organized and syndicate members quickly develop friendships that make racing more than just the days at the trials and the races. We have also arranged some great social activities with the assistance of personalities like John Rowles (pictured below).

John Rowles grabs a chance to accompany Sir Patrick Hogan on stage!
