How may we help?

A dominant victory to kick off his late summer campaign was just what the doctor ordered according to co-trainer Debbie Rogerson as she reflected on the winning performance of Cosmic Cube at New Plymouth last weekend.

The handsome son of Dehere hadn’t been seen over the busy Christmas period with Rogerson and husband Graeme preferring to give the four-year-old a little R & R after some tough runs during New Zealand Cup Week last November.

That may well prove to be a blessing in disguise for the showy bay gelding as he looked a ball of muscle prior to comfortably seeing off his rivals on the weekend.

“The break seems to have done him the world of good as he has come back bigger and stronger this time in,” said Rogerson.

“He’s always been a little immature so we’ve had to take him along carefully but he has really developed now so we’re hopeful this is when we see the best of him as he’s an exciting galloper.”

Rogerson was confident of a good showing on Saturday after the gelding had enjoyed a trouble free build-up to his campaign opener.

“We have such good facilities at home that you can really get the work into them and he had put in plenty of groundwork prior to the race,” she said.

“He’s pulled up really well so now we have to have a good think about where we aim him next.

“Graeme and I will sit down and have a good talk with his owner about what his options are but at this stage there are no major plans for him.

“I have always thought once he strengthened up that he would be best at around the mile so a race like the Easter Handicap in April could be an option for him.”

The familiar Rogerson colours will be seen all over the New Zealand racing scene this week with a team of eleven runners engaged at Wairoa on Thursday while the stable will also mount an attack on several of the weekend features.

“Soriano is heading to Otaki for the Haunui Farm Classic while we have nominated Serena Miss and Reminisce for the Matamata Breeders’ Stakes,” said Rogerson.

“Soriano is simply thriving at the moment while the two year-olds are both in good shape. Serena Miss trialled at Cambridge last week and did it effortlessly so we’re hoping for some good results over the weekend.” – NZ Racing Desk
